| THE STORY OF LILY’S COFFEE HOUSE Lily's Coffee House opened its doors in November 1998. Lily's is the realization of a vision, inspired at least in part, by a few hours spent one day with an old woman who lived on the island of Formentera, the smallest of the Balearic Islands located off the east coast of Spain. Tom Quanrud and Brian Schneider combined their passions of coffee and flowers to create a friendly, comfortable and inspiring atmosphere, reminiscent of a small Spanish or Italian café, where people can take a few moments for coffee, food and friendship. During high school and college Tom worked with the Chi Chi's Restaurant Corporation and accumulated approximately four years of experience in food and beverage service, hosting, cold prep and line cooking. After receiving his B.A. in Personnel Services and B.S. in Spanish Education from Moorhead State University, Tom taught high school for seven years in a Minneapolis school district and three years at a privately-owned and operated language school for adults near the University of Minnesota campus. He has traveled extensively throughout Spain and Mexico, including a semester of study in northern Spain. Tom's memories of sharing a café con leche and warm conversation with friends have been a huge inspiration to the concept of Lily's. Brian received his degree in Interior Design from the Alexandria Technical College. He worked at a design firm in St. Cloud for five years before moving to Minneapolis to start his own business in 1995. After working with many residential and commercial clients, including the Hilton Hotel and the Mendakota Country Club, Brian began expanding his business to include fresh flower work for social events and weddings. To develop his natural talent, Brian worked part time with two flower shops and continued his interior design business. In June 2007 we opened our new shop Inspired Home & Flower Studio right next door to Lily's for Brian to have a home base for his design business. We also have to opportunity again to offer fresh flowers on a daily basis. Lily's offers espresso drinks and specialty gourmet and flavored coffees, chai, fruit smoothies, blended lattes & mochas, wrap & sandwiches, soups & salads, homemade muffins and breads, cookies and other pastries, and desserts. Customers love looking through our huge selection of fun greeting cards and often find that perfect birthday or hostess gift. We also offer free wireless internet access. We have both left successful careers to follow a dream, to create what Lily's is today. Our mission is to offer our customers an opportunity to break from the continual pressures of everyday life, encouraging them to give themselves permission to take even a few minutes for a little self-indulgence. We offer superior customer service and top quality products. Our hope is that each customer leaves Lily's with a smile and the memories of a joyful and inspiring experience. |
